A unit of Jeevan Jyoti Sansthan

“JEEVAN JYOTI” A School for the special children was inaugurated on 14th September, 1989 in the Coal Capital of India. Since There were hardly any schools for Children with different abilities in the vicinity there was a need for such a school. Such Children needed special care and attention. Keeping this in mind some dedicated ladies and social worker group of Inner Wheel Club of Dhanbad launched this much needed project in the year 1989. It was a very small beginning with 6 children enrolling on the first day.

The tiny bud which was sown with love & care has now blossomed into an institution of 125 special Children in 2020. In 31 years the school is established firmly inside a building overlooking the beautiful Bekarbandh Lake of Dhanbad. The School Building is built on a leased land from the Local Administration.

Facilities at Jeevan Jyoti School

Computer Section

Basic computer training is provided to our special children to operate computer system i.e. Make Files, Typing Practice, MS Word/Excel work etc. They learn how to use computer to get knowledge. Also computer training is given to the Visually Impaired children through JAWS Software.

Physiotherapy Section

Management of abnormal muscle tone. Exercises to maintain joint range of movement. Stretching program for loosening muscles. Development of gross motor skills e.g. rolling, sitting, standing, walking. Exercises to strengthen weak muscles.

Speech & Audiometory Section

Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment of speech disorders, viz.; Stammering, disarticulation, voice disorder etc. Assessment, Diagnosis and Therapy of language disorders, viz.; delayed speech and language due to other etiological factors, aphasia, dyslexia etc.

Vocational Training

The candles and artificial flowers bouquets and greeting cards made by the students are sold in the open market. The students who are involved in making these articles are given some money as an intensive.

Library

The School maintains a Library of about 200 relevant and informative books related to special education, child psychology, educational psychology, journals, teaching techniques for special children, PORTAGE guide, CBR related books, story books , class wise syllabus books etc.

Kitchen

A full fledged kitchen with enough cooking, serving and eating utensils, tools and equipments is maintained at the School. Due care is taken to ensure high food quality and cooking standards, cleanliness and hygiene.
