“JEEVAN JYOTI” A School for the special children was inaugurated on 14th September, 1989 in the Coal Capital of India. Since There were hardly any schools for Children with different abilities in the vicinity there was a need for such a school. Such Children needed special care and attention. Keeping this in mind some dedicated ladies and social worker group of Inner Wheel Club of Dhanbad launched this much needed project in the year 1989. It was a very small beginning with 6 children enrolling on the first day.

The tiny bud which was sown with love & care has now blossomed into an institution of 125 special Children in 2020. In 31 years the school is established firmly inside a building overlooking the beautiful Bekarbandh Lake of Dhanbad. The School Building is built on a leased land from the Local Administration.

The school was taken over by Rotary club of Dhanbad in the year 2002 when it moved to its current premise. The School is professionally run by a team of specialist teachers and is supported by a committee constituted by the club. A team of doctors, therapists and other professionals also render their services on regular and honorary basis.

Aims & Objectives of the School


The School is governed under a set of rules and regulations laid down in its By-laws and the Aims and Objectives of the School as mentioned in its Memorandum of Association are:

  1. Jeevan Jyoti School (running since 1989) for special children (disabled children) who needed special care, had been ignored till now so. And provide relevant doctors and therapist (team of specialists) at the centre.
  2. The work of the school is to serve as an impartial co-ordination of correlating body on communication disorders (Speech and hearing impaired, mentally retarded, autistic, cerebral palsy, deaf-blind and multiple disabilities) and other connected matters related to the communication disorders in close collaboration with National and International Program.
  3. To effect a scientific exchange upon communication disorders by collecting and disseminating information through publications, correspondence, exhibitions, regional national and international courses, seminars, symposia, conferences, camps surveys etc. by staff efforts or otherwise.
  4. To undertake appropriate projects to encourage and facilitate high level uniform practice by development of standards for nomenclature, curriculum design, devices, techniques and processes, research and development, treatment, education and training in the field of communication disorders.
  5. To promote temporary homes for children, broken homes, children of unattached workers, employed or under training. Also establish orphanages and home for the aged by providing free boarding and education irrespective of cast community and creed. Establish Holiday homes, Camps and Cultural tour for the benefit of the members.
  6. Formation and establishment of more and more institutions for promotion of general and technical education, employment oriented education and Art & Culture education centre with a view to reaching its benefits to rural masses and tribal. To promote the rural development and tribal welfare programmed for benefits of rural and tribal masses.
  7. Give free training to women’s like Kutir Udyog, so they can become self employed and their life style can be improved. Also remove social evils like Dowry system, Child marriage, Child labour etc. and educate the peoples from seminars to abolish such systems.

Other Objectives of the School

  1. To work on prevention, awareness, early identification, diagnosis, rehabilitation, vocational training, education and training, infrastructure development and all other welfare work for different disabilities.
  2. To work on prevention, awareness, training and treatment of AIDS, Cancer, Drug addiction, Malaria, Kala zar and other killer disease.
  3. To work for development of Sanitation, Cleanliness, Personal development, Education and training, self employment, Tribal welfare in the state. To work in the field of environment protection, plantation, water harvesting, pollution control, non-conventional sources of energy, etc. and knowledge about protection of environment.
  4. Also work in the field of plantation and agriculture. Spread education for planting trees to make environment clean and green. And organize seminars for controlling the pollution.

Jeevan Jyoti is a unique model institution of its kind in Jharkhand working to ensure the mainstreaming and social inclusion of children with special needs (CWSN).

It was our dream to create a platform for children with special needs to raise their concerns and develop the maximum potential of children, empower their families and ensure holistic development of children with special needs.

We have a multidisciplinary team of physiotherapist, speech therapist, clinical psychologist, occupational therapist, special educators, psychiatrisists delivering high quality services.

The school was taken over by Rotary club of Dhanbad in the year 2002. However the school is managed by a committee constituted by the club.
