Parents Awareness-CumTraining Program


Purpose of training Program: The society has a responsibility to ensure that all its members enjoy equal human rights, this realization is now spreading globally.

As a parent/family member of a person with disability have a crucial role in facilitating the child’s all-round development.As a first step in preparation for this role as a facilitator, they themselves need to be convinced about the potential of person with disabilities and acknowledge that disability is not a barrier to living a fulfilling and enriched life. Their conviction will help them in spreading awareness and carry out advocacy to remove prejudices and negative attitudes towards the disabled.

The aim of this training Programis to equip the parents and family members of individuals with disabilities with the knowledge, attitudes, strategies and skills so that they are better equipped to foster the multi-faceted development of those in their care and can have a positive influence on their lives.

Reason to choose this training: There are misconceptions about disabilities among the parents of person with disabilities. We need to make them aware about the potential of their special child.

What knowledge and skills will trainees learn from this training? This is sensitizing training program and the parents will become aware of the potential of their child and would be better able to help their child reach their full potential.

How will it address any gaps in the knowledge and skills of the beneficiaries that were identified during the community assessment? During community assessment it was quite commonly found that people, even relatives, have very adverse conceptions towards disability. This training aims to make them aware and change their thinking positively towards special children and the need to educate them.

Methodology of training: The methodology of the training program includes lectures, demonstration, project work, discussions and exposure visits to rehabilitation projects.

How many hours of training will each trainee receive? Each trainee will be given one day’s training (8 hours) in small batches. The total training will be for three batches

Who will receive the training? The parents/family members of person with disabilities.

How will trainees continue to use the knowledge and skills they learned from the training after the grant activities are completed? It is expected that the trainees will be sensitized to the needs of the child with disability and will be happy to facilitate their education and growth. Also, booklets will be shared with the trainees on the subject.

How will this training be evaluated to determine its effectiveness and improve future training? Through a Feedback Form immediately after the training.

Communication Training Program for Children with Autism (with Parents)


Purpose of training Program: To develop communication skills in children with Autism.

Reason to choose this training: Children with Autism have very bare or negligible communication skills and specialized training is required for both child and the parent to develop basic non-verbal and verbal communication.

What knowledge and skills will trainees learn from this training? After the training the parents of the child with autism will grasp the basics of how to communicate with their child and ensure development of their child.

How will it address any gaps in the knowledge and skills of the beneficiaries that were identified during the community assessment? Parents of children with autism are at loss on how to handle their child and they have constant queries and have asked for training sessions where they can be involved. This training program willhelp develop a communication channel between the parent and child.

Methodology of training: The methodology of the training Program includes lectures, demonstration, discussions, participation in practice-teaching.

How many hours of training will each trainee receive? The duration of training Program is 4 days (8hours each day)

Who will receive the training? Parents of children with Autism along with their child

How will trainees continue to use the knowledge and skills they learned from the training after the grant activities are completed? After training the parents will be able to understand the psychology and language of their child. Also, written text materials will be provided.

How will this training be evaluated to determine its effectiveness and improve future training? Through a Feedback Form immediately after the training. Through an Evaluation done quarterly after the training programs.
